Tons of HD around the corner
// August 16th, 2007 // fun
I’ve been counting down to the month of September for quite awhile now. Not only does it mean football season, but it also has the great benefit of being the month in which Direct TV will release a TON of new HD channels!
First off, if you already have a new HD DVR from DTV, you need to make sure you have these silly little converter boxes on the back of it. If you don’t, you wont see the new channels. That’s because they are all MPEG4 and are on a brand spanking new satellite orbiting this fine planet. DTV says you need to have it installed by the latest on September 1st, because the channels will be soon to follow.
If you have it all, then get ready for a gaggle of new channels coming your way. Like the NFL Network, SciFi (wooo), FX, TB, Bravo, CNN and more!
It will be like Christmas came early this year

If this means that Sunny in Philadelphia and Damages will be in HD, I’m in on the excitement extravaganza!
I certainly hope it means that! And Rescue Me too Jina, don’t forget your favorite show!
I have one of those silly boxes on the back of my HD DVR and was wondering what it was for…now I know.
I’m ready for the ‘gaggle’ of new channels…not sure how many constitute a ‘gaggle’ but it sounds like quite a few…and SPEED is included..woot!
Merry Christmas to ALL in the DirecTV world.
ugh, i wish cox hd would get more channels…
For clarity, although Direct TV will offer more HD channels, that does not mean your show was filmed or will be broadcast in HD. An example is NBC, if you have HD today, you see some shows in HD others you dont. The channel option is the first step in the right direction, but your shows have to climb onboard and actually film in HD and be shown in HD, other wise you will see a digital convert.
Of course you are right Horatio…but more and more is being filmed in HD.
I think Rescue Me is one of them, and hopefully we get FX before the season ends for that show.
