101 in 1001

Posted by Mike under 101 in 1001

Jina told me about this thing that Melissa Jill did over on her blog awhile ago. She’s the amazing photographer that took our anniversary pictures.

She basically decided that she wanted to do a bunch of things and wanted a way to make sure she actually DID them. She got this idea from a seminar she attended and another photographer told her about her list of 101 things she wanted to accomplish in 1001 days. So Melissa came up with her own list of things and has steadily been working on them.

I am not a goal-oriented person so this is a huge step for me. Still, I think it would be fun to write down a bunch of goals that I want to accomplish and then set out to do them. Listing them on my blog just gives me more motivation to finish them.

The final 15 spots are left empty for now, as I want to make sure I come up with some good ones to finish this list. I have to tell you, coming up with 101 things you want to do in the next three years is pretty tough. Many of these are simple, fun and easy to attain. Others, like graduating, or becoming a father, are a bit tougher. Some involve watching TV or movies, which will be easy to get done :) I will update this page whenever I accomplish a goal and also write about it.

I am open to ideas for the Final 15, but they’ll have to be great!

And now, on to Mike’s list of 101 things to do in 1001 days!

Now it all makes so much sense!!! #44 explains why you ranked the Queen above Bourne and the transformers!! :P you eat a Steak yet???

Nice list…. I can say that Mrs. Capn and I are currently doing something kind of fun that is relative to a few of the items on your list that say “Watch….X series/movie, etc”

AFI (American Film Institute) in 1998 put out the greatest 100 movies of all time list. 10 years later in 2007 they released a revised top 100 movies of all time. There are 23 movie differences between the 2 lists, and the current version includes more modern movies.

Now although I have an impressive list of movies that I have seen in my life, I also have an impressive list of movies I have never seen (The Godfather, Gone With the Wind, Casablanca) just to name a few.

Our rule is, regardless if we have seen them before
we will watch them all again (as mostly I havent seen the movies on the list)

So , we decided we would watch all 123 movies (both lists combined)to see all the movies, so far we have seen maybe about 10 of them. some are good and some are really not so good (Mike that means you would really like the not so good ones…)

So, we watch about 2-3 of these maybe a week, and progress through the list slowly. I’m definetley not looking forward to some of them (i.e. Wizard of Oz was good the first 500 times I saw it… I think on the 501st time Dorothy should be packing a shotgun and surpirse that ole witch)….

Perhaps, if there is any interest, as we go through the list i can give a small quib on what I thought of the movie, and see if any of you have seen it as well and what you thought.

P.S The Queen is not on the list…..

Awesome idea, I like that…some of the old movies I’ve seen have surpassed what I thought they’d be like. Once I finally saw Casablanca, I was blown away by how great it was.

Link me to the list you use?

This will show you the recent list, but you can navigate around the site to see both lists they did in 1998 and in 2007…. looks like they are going to show it on tv as well…

[...] And this completes #53 on my 101 in 1001 list! [...]

2007-09-10 10:14:27

Taking a page from your 101 list, I felt inspired to tap into “getting others do to something” theme. With that said I took it upon myself to spread the word about quite possibly the greatest TV show ever made. What one show could have you dazzled, frazzled, cringing, nervous, anticipating, gasping, upset, yelling and cheering at the TV, all at the same time?!?!?

BattleStar Galactica.

I gave season 1 to my dad and step mom (AKA Auntie) to just watch the first 3 episodes, to decide if they wanted anymore. They quickly finished all of season 1 (its like pringles you cant have just one), and called me late one night asking if I would be home early next day for them to pick up season 2, as they HAD to know what happens next! I laughed and said yes, I’ll be here. They then called me 5 mins later and said “Actually, can we come over now and get it…”? The show is REALLY that good. Every episode leaves you HAVING to know what is going to happen next.
I then told my wife the same thing, stick with it for 3 epsiodes, decide if you want to see anymore.
Needless to say we watch a DVD disk at a time (unless she HAS to watch more), she loves it, talks about it, has it on the mind. Its written really really well. Its not a typical spacey sci-fi show. Its this super military-political gritty drama that always has you on edge of your seat.
So, thanks Mike, I got others to do something, and we now have 3 more die-hard fans of BSG.
(P.S dont say anything abhout season 3 cause I havent seen it yet. I usually wait for the season to come out on DVD and then i sit and watch it all in one day!!!)

Marsh, I’m so pumped…I can’t believe you got them to like it and that you like that show so much. It’s truly in my Top 5 shows and it’s hard to find people who appreciate it. It’s so dang good.

You need to watch season 3 :) I still have the finale on my DVR in case I need to watch it again.

2007-09-10 10:50:11

Because I cant stand waiting week to week for the next show, I usually suck it up, and wait for a season to be released on DVD so I can watch it all in one day. Which leads to the question… WHERE THE HECK IS SEASON 3 ALREADY, for crying out loud!! Although its relaesed in the UK already, I’m hearing rumors it will not be released in the US, right up until Razor airs in Nov. (ugh, that would seriously blow).
But I wanted to share, that for all the girls who arent watching this show….LEAVE WORK NOW AND START WATCHING IT, its that good =)

2007-09-10 10:54:34

oh one more thing…. the soundtrack to the show is AWESOME. You cant buy the soundtracks in stores, you have to do it online. Season 1 soundtrack is ok.. but season 2 is AMAZING. I seriously recommend going to Amazon and get season 2 soundtrack for the show, its truly inspiring music (good for all instances). Stranded on a desert island, its the ONE cd I would want with me.

Wow, never thought about the Soundtrack, I love soundtracks, I should give that a shot.

I know what you mean about TV shows on DVD…we’ve had great fun watching shows from start to finish on DVD instead of TV. Usually it’s because we’re late to the party though. Like Arrested Development. That show was utter genius. Was a blast to watch all 3 seasons in a row.

The pain I go through so you can mark #84 off of your list…

Theres a short version and a REALLY long version.
Short version:
4 attempts, a man size hole in the ceiling, and 3 out of 4 wrong receivers, I do have a HD-DVR installed.

Long Version:
Perhaps I’ll send an offline email to MO about the unbelievable story of trying to get the new upgraded Direct TV dish, and the NIGHTMARE 8 hour 4th attempt install… (yes, 8 hours and 20 min technically).

All to get you to mark off #84 on your list…
