Baby update!
// May 7th, 2008 // family
I used an exclamation point in the title of the post because I wanted to make you think this was an exciting, awesome update.
But in reality, we really don’t have much in the way of coolness to update you with. Certainly no new ultrasounds for another 10 weeks, which really sucks. We got spoiled at the fertility clinic with TWO ultrasounds within a week of each other.
Today the baby is 10 weeks old, which is a nice round number. That’s the same number as Leandro Barbosa wears for the Suns, but I really am trying to ignore them right now.
Jina told me yesterday that the baby is the size of a prune now. If you want to see what it might look like, the handy dandy little animation up to the right should give you all you want, and maybe more. It’s actually a cool little applet.
Jina is doing well, but still pretty tired a lot. We went to see Iron Man last Friday at 4:50pm, we got home, ate dinner and turned on Battlestar Galactica, and I looked over and Jina was asleep already.
It was like 7:59pm.
That’s our MO right now. And I say OUR, because I figure I should to endure whatever she is feeling right now. So I eat a lot, sleep a lot and pretend to be in pain so I can get sympathy.
Kidding about the pain part.
But it sure is nice to eat and sleep more than usual!
Honestly, it’s been interesting because they say 50% of fathers end up with sympathy pains as they go through this, and not just pain, but stuff like being tired a lot. Jina started not being able to sleep through the night, and for about a week, I kept waking up at odd times too. And it made me incredibly tired during the days.
Ah well…
We had our first OB appointment on Monday, and we go back for another one in four weeks.
We’ll keep you guys posted if anything exciting happens, like if the prune suddenly starts talking to us and says “I want to know who’s in the coffin on Lost daddy.”
We all do kid…we all do.

Well, I don’t know about the sleeping part, but I know I ate a lot more than usual when Ana was pregnant. I probably gained liked 10 or 15 pounds. Not good.

Well, not to correct my Mike, but yesterday was actually 10 weeks, but who’s counting. (I am, trust me.) It’s still a prune.
Sorry, yesterday…seemed like it was a Wednesday for some reason.
Anyways, 10 is my lucky number today, got a room on the 10th floor of the hotel, and while it was a smoking room (all they had) it smells pretty okay!
I had a choice between 4 and 10, and of course took the one I knew was the right one.
Yeah, I’ve been sort of getting that same vibe, I’m back on my Abs Diet starting tomorrow.
yay for prunes! i’ve got an eggplant right now
All exciting stuff. It’s funny the things fathers go through when your wife is pregnant. From weight gain to sleepless nights I think it’s God’s way of getting you ready for what comes after the baby gets here.

I can’t wait until your boobs start to ache and swell, that’s when it will be really interesting!
I’m so glad that you’re savoring every moment Mike!
Ahhh… congratulations! I’m your mom’s (Grandma Gisela) co-worker and she sent me your blog link. I’m so so happy for you two! You two look so sweet (ummm… she also sent me the link to your anniversary pictures – beautiful… I loved ‘em) — just looking at you two, I can tell you’re going to make WONDERFUL, LOVING parents. Sooo… the fetus is 10 weeks! Awesome. Just enjoy the extra sleep and food intake GUILT FREE! Gisela is so happy for you — and I am trying to think of a “Grandma” gift to get her — so let me know if you have any ideas!
Love the blog site! Can’t wait to read your updates!
Hey Guys,
Long time no see! We heard that you are pregnant and are so excited for you. Congrats!!! We also did IVF for our second after 5 years of infertility. He’s a beautiful 5 month old boy now and we’re pinching ourselves every day because we feel so blessed. When you wait so long for something I don’t think that feeling will ever go away.
We had a lot of the same feelings as you… we were so happy to leave and move onto our OB appointments. And the ivf hormones definitely made me exhausted up until the fourth month – but it will let up and it is so worth it. As I’m sure you know.
Take care and congratulations!

I think so too Scott.
Thanks Cristi, should be a fun trip…
Not sure what to get Grandma, I’ll let you know if I think of something
Congrats to Nicky! I happen to love eggplants! Actually, I love every food that has come along so far, even prunes. But I think “Raspberry” makes a better nickname … so that is my choice for the moment … “lil raspberry”.
Don’t let Jason fool you. He gained around 20 pounds when I was pregnant!
It’s funny how this article is about pregnancy, but mostly focuses on the person who isn’t.
I am so excited for you too. All the sleep you’re getting is to make up for the sleep you’ll miss when the beauty arrives.
