It’s a Lyla!
// July 22nd, 2008 // family
For those of you who predicted a boy…I suggest NOT going to Vegas this weekend.
It’s a girl!
Lyla Grace is her name, which I absolutely love, so I’m really excited.
The entire process of looking at every part of this little baby girl was so awesome, but the best part of everything was seeing Lyla let out a great, big YAWN!
It was so special to me. The ultrasound tech finally slowed down enough to show us what everything was, and when she paused for a second on the face, the mouth just opened wide and you could tell it was a big, sleepy yawn.
Which made a lot of sense really. It was around 3:30 in the afternoon, and that tends to be our nap time on the weekends, so she was probably ready for one. Like father/mother like daughter.
The appointment kind of dragged after that, and by the end, we were pretty tired and hungry. But it was great to pass on the news to our family and friends afterwards.
Am I excited about a girl? YES. I was thinking boy, and all the stuff we could do together, but now that it’s a girl, I’m thrilled.
It reminded me of a time about a year ago when I was at a Phoenix Suns game with some friends, and this father walked past us with a little, long-haired blonde girl who was about 6-7 years old. She was wearing a Steve Nash jersey and having a great time with her dad.
That made me want my own little girl so I can teach her all about her daddy’s favorite stuff, like sports, the Suns, comic books, yard work, Legos, etc.
So that moment over a year ago is happening now and I can’t wait.
Below are two images from the ultrasound for your enjoyment! The first one is the side view, and the next one has a little arm in it

Hey! Congratulations!
I wanted a boy too, but now that I have her, I wouldn't trade my baby girl for anything in the world.
Awesome man, and thanks
Mike that is just beautiful news. I saw this pink baseball mit that I thought of when you first found out your guys were having a baby. CONGRATS!
Yay!!! I was right…. Whoooo Hoooo CONGRATS!!!
WOOO HOOOO!!!! I was hopin' for a baby girl! Yaaaay! Gisela has NO IDEA how adorable & fun & precious a little girl can be! After all… you know… she had 2 boys! I'm so happy! Congrats!
Congratulations! A beautiful name for your precious little girl.
From my perspective…
The appointment went just as Mike said and was every bit as amazing as he described – the yawn, seeing her as an actual baby, and the realization that we didn't have to say “it” anymore.
But this morning I was driving to work and was overcome with emotion (I know, I know – I'm pregnant – of course). But I realized how much fun a girl is going to be. I am a girl… I have a sister… and we had the best time growing up. And we loved our parents in such unique and special ways. Mom because she sang to us, read to us, brushed our hair, and let us share our deepest ups and downs with her. Dad because he loved to cuddle with us, always told us how proud of us he was, and because he was and is …magnetic.
Armed with the special memories of things I could now do with my little girl, I was equally blown away by all the things inheritely “Mike” that she will adore. His transparency, his love of life and all things fun, and his heart for those he loves.
What an amazing little girl we already have, and what an adventure she will experience with a family like us.
Wow, congrats, that's so awesome! My girlfriend and I even thought about the name Lila Lee, after her grandmother.
How perfect, Jina, you made me cry! And, it's good that you realized you're a girl!
Congratulations you guys! I did know, that no matter a girl or boy, you would be the best parents this baby could ever ask for! Love you!
I'll bet $100 you cried while writing this too
I can't wait to teach her how to shoot a basketball
Mike and JIna, What a good lookin little girl. I especially like the profile. We are so proud of you both and know that you are going to be great parents. Mile give Lyla a hug for me. We'll talk soon.
Dad
Who's Mile? Just kidding … how beautiful is little Lyla! We have a Lila, a Lydia, and a Lakeika at work but no Lyla. But of course, she will stand alone and should have a name that matches!
It's hard for me to think pink with Lyla. I'm thinking plaid, jean pinafores and skin like Jina's that does well running through the woods (are there any in Phoenix) without makeup!
AND … Mike and Jina … do you remember when we weren't sure you were even pregnant? I remember seeing a little girl flying a kite, shouting, “See me? See me?” Now we all have one, and we DO see you! Yea, Lyla!
By the way, Jean … I hope this doesn't mess up your quilt!
Mike & Jina & Lyla,
Congratulations to such special people. God bless all of you as you deserve to have such a wonderfu family life together. It is so exciting to go thru the pregnancy process (I loved it both times) and plan for the things you will do.
Love, Geri
YAY for girls! I am very happy to have made a wrong prediction. haha. Congratulations!!!
Thank you Geri for stopping by!
Yeah, just WHO is Mile?
That was a cool story about the little girl and the kite, and I'm so glad it came true
