School update

// July 7th, 2008 // family

This blog has been taken over by The Kid lately, which might be ironic considering what will happen once it’s born. I suspect my life will be turned upside down, and I actually cannot wait.

But one thing that I’m trying to finish before that is school. For those that know, I’ve been attending the University of Phoenix Online since the beginning of 2006. I never graduated from college and it was something that suddenly awoke in me as needing to be finished.

Well, I’m happy to report that I’m two weeks into my FINAL CLASS. Only three weeks left of writing papers, working in learning teams and of course, getting good grades. *grin*

I still have some electives required, but I’m going to knock those out with CLEP tests as soon as I can. I think I need to take about 4-5 of the tests to completely be done.

I’m worried about the tests, because I really need to motivate myself to study for them as much as I can and then take ‘em. It’s difficult without the deadlines I’ve had for 2.5 years now. But we’ll get it done.

So that’s the big update. I appreciate all the support I’ve gotten from family and friends. It’s been a long, long process for me…but I can’t believe it’s so very close to being over.

Hopefully this will open some doors if they are ever needed and give us opportunities that we haven’t even thought of yet.

    You can do it, Mike. Your story sounds very much like mine. I didn’t finish either, but in 2002 I got the itch to get it done. I actually had to go to classes (no online stuff for me!) and it took me 3 years to get my last 6 classes done, but I finally graduated with my journalism degree in 2005. I’m not using it at the moment, but that’s another story altogether. I’m sure you’ll do fine on your tests and you’ll hold that coveted diploma soon. Now that you’ve made up your mind, dig your heels in and nothing can stop you!

    I can’t even begin to tell you all how proud I am of Mike and what he has done to go back and finish school. It’s a grueling task that I’m sure some of you already have experienced. But he has done so well, and pretty soon, it will be all a faint memory.

    (Sorry for the inevitable husband-gushing that just came from my keyboard.)

    Thanks Heather…doing it online has been the expensive way to go, but it was a lot easier than going to classes :)

    You should use that journalism degree, that is something I’m pretty interested in.

    I left the $100 on the counter so you can go shopping whenever, thanks for the nice words :)

    Awesome news Mikey! I’m sure it feels like it’s taken forever to get here. Like any marathon, it’s much less important when you finish as long as you finish.

    As you move into parenthood I imagine this will give an impetus for preparing Elyla for college early and instilling the importance of good grades etc. Since both Deb and I took the long road to our degrees we’ve definitely tried to instill these things in Chad and we will no doubt do the same with Evie.

    Congrats to you!

    If I knew money came with nice words, I would have been doing this mushy stuff a lot sooner.
