Week 19 is here!
// July 9th, 2008 // family
Its hard to believe it’s already Week 19. Heck, that little floating baby to the right says we only have 148 days left! That’s crazy talk!
Today the baby is the size of a delicious Mango, a fruit that I rarely purchase or eat. In fact, the only time I’ve really seen a mango was from a Seinfeld episode years and years ago.
Here’s what’s going on with Elyla this week:
Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby’s skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might actually get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.
Wow…I don’t know what to say. That was perhaps the grossest update yet! Oil and dead skin cells? Can I try that? Sounds like a fun time. Maybe toss those ingredents into a hot jacuzzi and we’ll have a party.
By the way, we STILL haven’t taken a picture yet of the baby bump on Jina, but I DO have a photo to pass on regardless. I snapped it at Paradise Bakery last weekend while Jina was easting a giant cinnamon roll. She hates pictures (especially while she’s eating), so of course that smile was fake…
But she’s still beautiful and looking pretty cute lately. Enjoy the photo below and we’ll get you all a baby bump one soon enough!

I’m not sure why my face looks so orange, but that cinnamon roll was yummy!
That’s a fake smile? Really? You play if off so well Jina!
One more week, what’s the ultrasound date? I can’t wait!!!
Yea! week 19! When is your ultrasound? Is it weird that I’m so excited!?
btw – Costco always has yummy tubs of presliced Mangos. You might want to run down and get yourself one to celebrate. haha
Mike, mangos are amazing…I think that you should have one this week. J
It would be like the urban concept of “pouring one out for my homies” with a twist. We often do this in the hood, to show respect to love ones. So Mike, to you…I say raise the mango, make a toast and eat away…
Our ultrasound is on 7/22 – still two weeks away! Ugh.
2 weeks?! That’s brutal.
