With Week 33 upon us, Lyla is supposed to be the size of a honeydew, which you can see to the right. She’s over 4 pounds now and around 18 inches long! That’s pretty huge.
This week has been interesting thus far. At this latest appointment they really started talking about practice contractions and how to watch out for them turning into real ones. Jina hasn’t felt any yet, so we’ll be on the lookout for those. Although I guess not every pregnant woman feels them? Or at least not until really late in the pregnancy.
But everything looked great. Jina has some swelling in her feet and ankles, but the docs say it’s nothing at all to worry about. At least, they can’t see that it’s the symptom of anything wrong. Lyla is doing great, Jina is healthy and awesome…so we’re just plugging along waiting for this baby to pop on out.
Thursday night we took our first tour of the hospital where she’ll be born and it was fun. A couple we’re friends with, Matt and Daireth, were there as well and so we all got to learn about the place together. Two sets of married friends of ours both had their kids there in the span of a few weeks, so we kind of know it already.
The hospital is awesome, very quiet and the rooms are big. They have seriously cool security too. I dunno if most maternity wards are like this, but each newborn wears a sort of “baby lowjack” around their ankles, which sets of alarms if the baby nears a stairwell or the exit doors.
If they get close, the doors lock themselves, essentially trapping a would-be kidnapper inside. Then security is alerted.
They don’t have wireless internet yet, which kind of sucks if you are there for a few days and have a lot of free time, but I’m sure we’ll have other things to do. Of course we’ll post pictures as quickly as possible.
So that’s the quick update for this week. Jina is really starting to feel the burden of the extra weight now and has been very tired and a bit on the achy side as of late. Lyla loves to wedge herself up on Jina’s right side and sometimes it hurts her a bit.
We still need to finish the room up, hopefully this weekend, and after the tour today, we realize we need to get that little duffel bag packed for the stay at the hospital.

The “Lyla To-Do List” is a bit overwhelming once you realize it's really not too much longer. Hopefully, I will have the energy this weekend to really bust through it and once again start crossing things off the list.
