The new 101 in 1001 list
// October 12th, 2008 // fun
On September 5th, 2007, I posted my 101 in 1001 list, which was essentially a list of a bunch of things I wanted to accomplish/do in the next 1001 days.
I got the idea from Melissa Jill, who did our anniversary photos last year.
Anyways, I sort of forgot about the list once I found myself going full-bore on Pop Critics. I just didn’t have time to post blogs over on A Mike Life and so things got tossed aside. But now that stuff is gone and I’m going to get back to finishing off this list.
The funny thing is, there were a bunch of things on the list that I’ve done since last September so I can actually cross off quite a few. Kind of interesting to think that despite not using this list as a guide, I was still out there trying to make a few of them happen without realizing it.
Here is a brief summary of the ones that I can now cross off the list:
Checked Off The List
#8: Become a Father – Well, as everyone knows, I’ve pretty much got this one done. Just a month and a half left to the little lady makes her first appearance.
#24: Watch the British version of The Office – I watched a few episodes and decided I wasn’t interested in finishing it. Not that it wasn’t funny, but I’ve got a lot more things I’d rather see.
#25: Watch Curb Your Enthusiasm – Not done yet, but through season four.
#26: Have lunch with my pastor – Done and done.
#27: Get Jina drunk just once – Yes, this happened. But well before she was pregnant
#34: Go camping – Tyler and I just went a few weeks ago.
#40: Do a mission at church – Done a few of these this year, and will be doing another this coming Saturday. It’s been such a blessing to be able to help others whenever I get the chance.
#41: Go golfing with Tyler – Just did this a few weekends back during the baby shower. We only played nine holes, but it still counts.
#51: Make money off ASFN – Well, I sold the site a few months back and it helped me go from having a truck payment to buying a 1999 Toyota Solara and having ZERO payments going forward. Life is good.
#52: Golf at new golf course – This happened at least twice in the last year…so rock on!
#55: Get rid of the FexEx truck in front of my house – He only parks it in his driveway now, so this may be taken care of.
#56: Re-landscape the front yard grass area – DONE! And that was a lot of work too.
#59: Eat at the Melting Pot – Did this for Jina’s birthday.
#60: Make a new mix CD – There have been about 3 new mixes in the last year
#61: Get a new digital camera – We did this as well late last year
#75: Find a new band I love – The Silversun Pickups are definitely a great band that I just discovered earlier this year.
#81: Change the message on my answering machine – Done! You now have the ability to leave Lyla a message despite her not arriving for a month and a half yet.
#87: Go buy and fly a kite – Did this before summer, found an awesome stealth bomber kite, flew it a few times, and then just gave it to my brother’s girlfriend’s kid. It’s in better hands now.
What Next?
The thing about my list of things to do is that a bunch of them either don’t apply now or they aren’t things that I want to accomplish anymore. It’s weird how things change in a year.
So I’ll be revamping this thing in the next week and post a brand new, updated list. Should be interesting to see what I come up with, because when Lyla gets here, things may change even more.
In the meantime, here’s the original list below.

Hey Mike–sorry I didn't get back to you on FB. That's so cool that you are able to check a bunch of things off even without looking at the list too much. That's kind of the idea with writing things down–they enter your subconscious and then they are more likely to actually get accomplished than if you never wrote them down. Kinda cool.
I have a bunch of things on my list that I'm not really interested in accomplishing anymore too. I haven't changed the list but I've thought about it. I only have a year left on mine so I might just finish what I can get done and then start anew. But that's cool that you revamped yours.
And congrats on the little girl you're expecting. The name Lyla is absolutely adorable. I'm so happy for you guys!
Thanks Melissa…we love the name too
Glad to know I'm not the only one with the problem of “things to do” that I don't want to do anymore
Still need to revamp mine, but we'll see how it goes. With Lyla coming, my entire library of things I want to do could completely change.
Dude, its sad when I know what you have completed on your list better than you have….
you forgot #84 is completed… I had a guy fall through my ceiling to prove it!
and FYI…with all the chick flicks you watch coupled with #44, seriously, just turn in your man card now… =)
Toss in #37 as well if you want to really get crazy
LOL!
