As I sit here writing at 6:22am on Thanksgiving morning, the family having left about thirty minutes ago, Jina back in bed trying to catch a few more winks and me trying to keep Lyla sleeping for another hour until it’s time to eat…I thought about a lot of things I’m thankful for this year.
It’s truly a blessed day in our house. We’ve been waiting so long for Lyla to come into our lives and not just for nine months, but for many, many years. Jina has always known she wanted to be a mom, and for me…well, I knew about nine months ago and then again this weekend. And right now, staring at my beautiful little girl, I already can’t imagine life without her.
So what am I thankful for this year…
…starting off with superficial things like Lost, Battlestar Galactica, The Office, Blu-Ray, high definition, the Phoenix Suns, my iPod, Snow Patrol, Storm Chasers, comic books, Facebook, online bill payment, gas being under $2 right now, Google Reader, mix cd’s and Diet Coke
…a great job
…down to one car payment
…a solid roof over our heads
…football on Thanksgiving…football in general
…flag football on Thanksgiving morning (in just over an hour!)
…a great dad who has an amazing faith in God
…a wonderful mom who does everything she can to make sure we have what we need
…my brother who loves to quote movies just like I do
…blogging and writing about my life
…saturday mornings at Paradise Bakery with Jina
…my church
…our two, annoying, loyal dogs
…friends who would do anything for you
…my amazing wife who is the best thing that could have ever happened to a guy like me
…the family that stayed with us this week to ensure that parenthood started for us with a lot of help
…a baby who has been sleeping the entire time I wrote this blog
…the aunt who is bringing us Thanksgiving dinner today
…again my wife who is so wise at times it scares me and makes me a much better person. What would I ever do without her?
…and to Lyla, the new love of my life who makes gurgling sounds, toots, hacks, sneezes, pees, poops, cries and screams, yet somehow was able to make all those things seem awesome
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

You're awesome Mike. Gisela just loves to talk about you & Jina, and now I'm learning why. Happy Thanksgiving – this one is the one you'll never forget!
Woo hoo “comic books, ” =)
I'd list a long list of similar items you wrote Mo, but I'd add a few…
Awesome extended family…. you guys are great and we miss ya!
Your blogs, and writing style… look, to dabble here a bit, its really easy to be busy and consumed with so many mundain everyday crap things. But you find a way to reach out to us all at least through words and your writing, keeping us all entertained, smiling, occasionally sheding a happy tear with you, and sharing in awesomeness of things you like with us (MAN BSG ROCKS!). Day in and day out we go to our maybe not so glorious jobs, but STILL you reach out with your writing style, to make at least one more moment not so crappy (i.e. I'm sitting at work, coming from a meeting where you wonder how its possible people think the way they do… and I come across President Palmer being resurrected only to be capped again and Jack Bauer busting out of prison to witness it all)… it turned the frown upside down.
Also, because time slips by and we may not keep in touch, you share with us your happenings in your life that we all want to be a part of more often… it makes it seem like we did!
So I say thanks to you, for doing the work us others are too lazy too do and often find a way NOT to do it, where you find a way to do it. THANKS for all that you give to us, to brighten our lives, thanks for sharing the moments of little Lyla with us when we weren't there…Happy – Thanksgiving to you, Jina, and Lyla… and of course THE PUPPIES!!! =)
oh yeah one more thing I'm truly thankful for… SPELLCHECK! You should have seen the first first of this =)
Wow Marsh, I really don't know what to say other than that means a heck of a lot to me and provides the motivation to want to keep going
You guys are great family and we can't wait to see you all at Christmas!
T-day flag football was great. Missed that the last few years, the best part is seeing all our kids now playing. Thanks Mike for putting that together.
So many things to be thankful for…friends and family undoubtedly top the list!
