24: Cool-Not Cool
// January 20th, 2009 // fun
The 5th hour of 24 is beginning to stretch the show into a very long day. I have some complaints and some thing I like, so figured I would take a second to share them in this brand new feature on A Mike Life: Cool-Not Cool
Cool: Jack Bauer having to kill an F.B.I. agent and making it look pretty friggin’ good. Kudos to Agent Walker for not screaming from being hit and instead falling down stone cold still. How are they going to save her when they have to bury her alive? I WANT TO KNOW.
Not Cool: The Attorney General, within an hour or two of Agent Walker torturing a guy in the hospital, already has papers drawn up and sent someone to the F.B.I. to bring Walker in for questioning. THAT FAST? Come on, ugh.
Not Cool: The fact that CTU is gone, but not really since the F.B.I. is essentially CTU again. Same bickering characters, same whining people in a job that is so vastly important, they should just be working their buns off instead of petty conflicts between each other.
Cool: The story with Jack and Tony. I’m loving it.
Not Cool: The other stories.
Not Cool: The President’s son is dead, and now these conspirators think they can just kill the President’s husband (The First Man?) without making their problems worse?
Not Cool: An affair? Really? First we have the dude get his wife’s plane to come down early, and then he walks over to some other chick and says he can’t stop thinking about last night. Ugh. This is the F.B.I? He and Garafalo are running point on these missions? Does anyone CARE that Agent Walker is about to be killed???
Not Cool: So Walker is abducted, likely to be killed, yet her boss guy is in his office doing paperwork? Wouldn’t a kidnapped F.B.I. agent be like a national crisis?
Not Cool: It’s so unrealistic that a lawyer would demand to question people in the middle of a crisis with planes being taken over and agents kidnapped.
Okay, so that’s 2 Cools to 7 Not Cools. Not good.
Yet will I watch next week? Yes.

LOLOL….
Cool: The story with Jack and Tony. I’m loving it.
Not Cool: The other stories.
I’m with you on this… can’t get enough of the Tony Jack story the rest is absurd trash who’s segments were probably directed by Billy!
Cool: Mike’s new format for critiquing a show!
Not-Cool: That I didn’t think of it first! (ha ha)
And I agree completely with your assessment of this episode – especially about the Attorney General already pressing charges only an hour or two after the incident in question. I mean I know the whole show requires a suspension of reality, but even in “24-world” that seemed a bit ridiculous and unbelievable. I’d like to think justice is that swift… but come on!
On a separate note, when Jack said, “I need some household cleaners.” to make the gas, I said, “Who do you think you are, Michael Weston?!?!”
ROTFL! Michael Weston! (Speaking of, it premieres on Thursday I believe)…
I thought MacGyver of course, but either way, it was a little hokey.
Not sure if I will use this format all the time, but it felt appropriate for 24
Hahaha, nice
Yep – Burn Notice on Thursday! It’ll be interesting to see where they take the story from here…
Keep the format – I like how it breaks it down.
Btw – is this a crazy week for TV premieres or what? Fringe tonight, LOST tomorrow night, Burn Notice on Thursday. I swear… these people don’t want me to have a life, but rather stay permanently glued to the TV.
And if you are like me, BSG premiered last Friday, so it’s friggin’ unbelievable. And Smallville last week too
Fringe being back is great…really want to see where it’s going to go.
I didn’t realize how invested I was in Fringe until I saw the commercials for the re-start of the show and I got all excited just by seeing snippets of new footage! (Walter is hilarious!)
Little late, but watched 15 min last night and stopped. Never thought that I would quit watching 24 and I don’t think the realism of it has gotten to me before, but I am done. It was a good 6 seasons for me, but that’s all.
Wow, that was quick.
I think it has more to do with you trying to not watch as much TV than it does with 24 sucking
Maybe
I don’t know, maybe I am quick to give up, but seems like the same old thing. This is the scene that I just decided to quit. Somebody spent a lot of money to build a safe room, with walls two feet thick, but put the ventilation system where it is easily accessible. They also mad the electricity easy to access also. Very expensive safe room, but easy to access the Air and electricity. Then on top of that the smoke goes into the ventilation system that fast and comes out that heavy. Instead of getting on the floor, since smoke rises and covering our face we stand there and start coughing. Or look into the BIG box in the room and see what is in there.
Just to much of that and I think hearing about how bad it was from several people finally pushed me over the edge. If everybody was saying how great of a season it was I would probably not notice things like that.
So you started basically on the third episode, not even the first?
