Let’s talk about Lost!
// January 29th, 2009 // fun
My buddy Adrian said it best last night when he tweeted the following: “This episode of LOST felt much shorter than an hour. Great episode.”
It was weird right? Didn’t we all feel that way? When it ended, I was like, WHAT? IT’S OVER ALREADY???
*SPOILERS AHEAD!!!*
It just felt really, really quick. Interesting how that works sometimes. Does that mean it was so awesome and so spellbinding that you just lose track of time?
Probably, because I loved last night’s episode, all the way up to and including the big moment at the end when we get one of Locke’s best lines ever:
“Nothing. Nice to meet you.“
Just the way he finally meets a 50-year younger Charles Widmore, the look on his face, the smirk when he says that line was fantastic. Especially because he almost killed him and held off.
Or really…could he have been killed? Can’t change the timeline right?
And WOW, so my suspicions from awhile ago were confirmed: Widmore had indeed been to the Island before. But damn, did I ever think he was an OTHER? Heecccckkkk no. The way he and Ben go at each other, I thought he was more of a Dharma guy.
I suppose he still could be, or perhaps he’s responsible for stuff that happens on the Island, like the US soldiers that came there and the Others were forced to kill?
Anyways, that was just awesome…where is that story going to lead?
On another note, how great is this time-traveling method of revealing details of the Island’s past? Instead of finding out about Widmore in some boring way, we get a great shocker like Locke meeting him in the past. Excellent.
So it also looks like Daniel Faraday’s mother is definitely going to be Mrs. Hawking. I loved the Desmond storyline, and was I the only one who got a little teary eyed when he called their baby Charlie??
I miss Charlie.
Desmond is just so awesome. Knowing the danger of going to see his father-in-law, he just does it anyways by busting through his door. And it pays off, we think, as he gets the information he wants to find Faraday’s mother, but why is Widmore afraid of what is going to happen next and wants Desmond to take Penny back into hiding?
(was just reading another recap – duh, Ben wants her dead)
Back to Locke…that sit down meeting with Richard Alpert was sweet. He just marches into camp, “I’m John Locke…Jacob sent me” and stuns Richard. Then he stuns him again by saying “I’m your leader.”
Then they blink away back to another time period…
What did you guys think? What stood out to you? What did I miss in my hasty post here? Share!

Well, I didn’t quiet clue into that girl with the gun probably being Mrs Hawking until I was laying in bed an hour later. lol I was like…. wait a minute…. You just can catch everything on that show all at once.
LOVED hearing that guy was Charles Widmore. Wasn’t expecting that.
I hate how really good episodes seem extra short.
Is the girl on the death bed the red head? Did Faraday use her brain (like they said he did with the rats) to travel time? I think he is a weasle..dont trust him at all.
Desmond rocked. I love when they show him. I totally forgot about Charlie till you mentioned that.
Do you think the blonde with the gun is anyone important?
It is gona be very interesting to see how the young Charles Widmore character plays out.
I think right now for me its a little confusing..as Im sure it is for a lot of people. So that makes it a little frustrating sometimes. But of course looking forward to next week:)
@ Josie – Hmmm…I didn’t catch anything about that girl with the gun being Ms.Hawking, the old lady from the first episode this season who spoke to Ben in L.A….Maybe I’m missing something.
@ Melanie – I’m sort of confused too…the girl in the bed, Widmore, time travel, Locke needing to die…Charlotte bleeding…none of it makes sense and I’m hoping we get some answers to all that because it’s going to be making my heard hurt soon enough.
Did anyone see the first hour of Lost… which was a repeat of last week’s with pop-ups? I would prefer they give me two hours of new shows every week (heck they made us wait long enough from a writers strike we deserve bonus episodes!!!), instead of replay with VH-1 pop-ups explaining things (though admittingly some were interesting like when Hurley’s dad sat down with his sandwhich and started watching Expose, they highlighted that was a show that Nikki was on but she was whats his names brohter but got shot and died on the island).
The new episode was a good one, we still don’t know why Richard never ages and is ‘old’ when Sawyer asked how old is he. Is it next Wednesday yet?!?!?!
Also check out this interview with Richard from sci-fi wire….

Well, while he was walking with that girl with the gun he mentioned how she looked so much like someone… And with Ms Hawking making such a comeback this season and all the talk about his mom this episode it makes me think maybe…?
Plus, with Widmore being on the island at the same time — maybe it’s his father? Being that the girl and Widmore are on the island at the same time and are approx the same age in future. And that is another reason why he’s been funding Faraday…? Probably a long-shot… but k/o makes sense in my head.
Wow Josie…the only thing I’d say is that I think he’d recognize his mother…but then again, maybe not?
Great thinking though, I like it!
My guess with regards to Charlotte is that Daniel recognizes what’s going on with her because it’s the same thing that happened with the bed-ridden woman Desmond saw. He’s recognizing the symptoms from before and obviously doesn’t want Charlotte to end up the same way. For whatever reason, I think Charlotte’s brain isn’t holding on to their little time travel loop the same way that everyone else is.
The girl in the coma is Theresa Spencer… not much else I can find out about her. But I did find something really weird on Lostpedia. Waaaay back in Locke’s prophetic vision of the drug plane crash he saw Boone chanting “Theresa falls up thhe stairs, Theresa falls down the stairs” over and over. Boone later tells Locke that he had a nanny named Theresa when he was young that would go up and down the stairs to serve, only to fall down the stairs one time and break her neck. Same Theresa??
Woh….that’s crazy.
@Mike yeah, he would probably recognize his mom. Dang. But I’m still thinking she’s Ms Hawking… and her and Widmore were at the island at the same time.
@adrian That’s awesome! And k/o creepy!
Episode too short too many commercials.
Its interesting that Widmore has aged since being off the island, whereas Richard hasn’t, however I am assuming the other Others age as well, otherwise having a baby would be something you wouldn’t want to do.
I am on board with Melanie with the woman in the bed being Charlotte and her brain is on the Island, which makes me think the Island and the “real” world are different consciousnesses or parallel/multiverses or something. ( I have heard the spaceship theory, but I also could see it instead of a spaceship, occurring in a persons mind. Sorry tangent there). Charlotte being in England as well the Island would explain Faraday’s attachment to Charlotte and she to him.
We can see the power struggle b/t Widmore and Richard brewing perhaps leading to his ouster when Ben becomes the “Golden Child” . Not sure if Widmore is with the others during the Dharma overthrow don’t feel like searching for that tidbit.
I still gotta think Widmore and Faraday have a deeper connection, and Faraday blows up the rocks to expose the donkey wheel and is thrown into the future and why he know so much about time travel etc.
But there are some strange allegiances with Hawking, Widmore and Ben, unless we are being given a red herring and Hawking isn’t Faraday’s mom, but it looks almost definitively that she is.
Oh yeah great episode, I almost want to not watch the rest until the season is over then watch them continuously without waiting a week b/t shows.
Sorry one more point. Wonder why some people have different names on the island and off the island. Like Locke – Jeremy Bentham, Hugo- Hurley, possibly Hawking – Faraday (Mrs.), Dr. Candle – Chang (ok well he still on the island), Desmond – Barry Gibb
With Hugo/Hurley, Hugo Reyes is his actual name and Hurley just a normal nickname. We’ll see if Hawking/Faraday mom is the same person. Dr. Pierre Change is a little weird because he actually has many other names that he uses for the orientation films (Dr. Marvin Candle, Dr. Mark Wickmund, Dr. Edgar Halliwax). We’ll probably see how John Locke adopts the name Jeremy Bentham later on but both of those names are actual names of english philosophers who actually had some competing viewpoints. Desmond – Either Bary Gibb or Jesus will do
Where does Bary Gibb come from?

He is of the Bee Gees.
You guys are to thinky for me..now reading all this stuff I’m really lost..no pun intended.
Got this from comments 0n popcandy. Hawkins first name is Eloise, or Faraday’s mom, and the girl with the gun is Ellie. So maybe Faraday, knew he wasn’t going to be shot etc and the bomb wouldn’t blow up because he recognized her as his mother. Cause he did say he she looked familiar. I think he is like Ben who knows far more than he is letting on, or at least he is very thinking on his feet. At first I thought Josie was off track but looks like she may be dead on.
Sorry one more thing I read but forgot. Faraday’s rats name was Eloise.
Yeah that makes sense about Faradays mom and why he was saying that to her.
