Lyla is two months old! (video!)

// January 25th, 2009 // fun

It’s 1:11am on Sunday morning and I just got done working for the last six hours. Still more to do tomorrow, but I’m quitting for tonight and thought it was a good chance to talk about Lyla, because I haven’t done so in about, ohhhh, five minutes.

She turned two months old last Thursday and has been on the planet for nine weeks now. It’s quite amazing how much she’s changed in just a short time, even though it’s sometimes hard to see.

Like for example, she’s now 10 pounds, 15 ounces, which is a mite bigger than the 7 pounds, 8 ounces she was when born. She’s grown about three inches in height and is, according to the doctor on Friday, right where she should be at this stage.

In fact, I can’t even believe what a good baby she is these days. Or has been the entire time maybe. Those first few weeks seemed so long and agonizing at times, it made us wonder if she was going to be this fussy/colicky baby. But here were are, nine weeks later, and when I look back, it really wasn’t bad at all.

Of course, that could just be a result of how amazing she is right now. As I wrote last weekend, we started the crib training and it was hard at first. But as the week has gone on, she’s taken to it like a champ.

Last night (Saturday), Jina put her down to sleep around 10pm or so, and she never let out a peep after that. Just fell asleep and has been that way the entire time.

We’re even starting to see nights where she only gets up once to feed, meaning she sleeps from around 9:30 to 1-2pm, then from 3pm to 6 or later.

One night she was down from 9:30 to 2:45, which was over five hours of straight sleep for Jina. Might have been the most she’s gotten all at onceĀ  since Lyla was born.

With her sleeping better at night, it’s carried over into daytime, where she’s become a better napper and much more independent. She can sit in her chair for quite a while, cooing and amusing herself without much needed from us. Not too long ago, that may last about 15-20 minutes, but she’d start getting restless. Now it’s different.

She’s lost a bit of hair on the back of her head where she sleeps on it, but the doctor said it would grow back pretty soon. I’m just happy she’s sleeping.

Jina goes to work on Monday, and while I’m likely taking the day off since I’ve worked all weekend, we’re excited to get her to this point for the babysitter on Tuesday. She should be a lot easier to put down for a nap now, and will make everyone’s life easier.

Oh yeah, that means I get to take care of Lyla all day on Monday, which should be an experience to say the least. Never had to do more than one feeding, so a full day of it seems daunting, but also fun. Who knows WHAT we’ll do or where we’ll go.

(likely we’ll just stay home as I get to some homework due on Monday)

We’re starting to work on “tummy time” with her more now, and she’s not a big fan. For about 5-10 minutes all is okay, but then she just gets tired and done with all that.

She got the last of her immunization shots last week and took them like a champ. She’s able to take Children’s Tylenol now, which eased some of her pain possibly, but it really didn’t appear to bother her too much afterwards.

So that’s the status report. Friday night we went out to dinner to Joe’s Farm Grill again and then Saturday morning it was up for our weekly Paradise Bakery breakfast, then we ran to Baby’s R Us to get a few things, like a humidifier for Lyla’s room.

I uploaded a bunch of photos from week 9 which you can see right here, and if you have 3:19, you can watch the video below of Lyla and me hanging out Saturday morning.

    Hi Jina,
I check out this website every once in awhile to see Lyla. She is adorable. We miss you at ASU but I am glad you will get to spend more time with the baby. I was a stay at home Mom and loved almost every minute of it. Glad to see everyone is doing well. Take care, Theresa
