“We are who no one thought we were”

That was a sign made by a fan at the Cardinals game yesterday. It perfectly captures the team’s entire playoff run.

Which, by the way, has landed them in the Super Bowl. THE SUPER BOWL!

No one could have predicted this would happen. Not even the most die-hard Cardinals fan of 40+ years could have conjured this scenario up. Sure, they dreamt about it…but it’s hard to believe any fan actually thought they had a chance. Not with the Giants lurking around out there and the way our season ended.

But we did it anyways and it’s awesome. I’ve been a fan ever since they got to Arizona since I really had no team before that. So I’ve lived and died with them. I remember going to the final game of the 1998 season where they had to win to get into the playoffs. And they did. What a blast.

I wanted to go to the game yesterday, but it was just too expensive. Besides, we had a great time with Tyler and Sara, Matt, Daireth and Kady, not to mention the three kiddies, Lyla, Rachel and Tatum.

Tyler cooked up some gigantic steaks from Costco that were over a pound each. That’s right, he bought seven steaks that weighed a total of NINE POUNDS. But dang did he rock them on the grill. Tasted fantastic.

We made some baked macaroni, ate steak fries, little smokies (missed you Nicky!) and drank a few bottles of Kiltlifter and 8th Street Ale.

Tyler and I played dueling “Tweeters” during the game, along with a ton of other friends who Twittered the entire game with us. What a blast!

Lyla seemed to enjoy the game as she fell asleep right there in her bouncy chair during the second quarter, regardless of the hooting, hollering and screaming going on. Good girl.

Now, our little get-together was a small one compared to our annual Super Bowl Party that Jina and I always throw. But this year…it’s so very different.

It never even occurred to me that one day our little party would feature the Arizona Cardinals as contenders, so it’s going to be ultra-special.
