A Lost question

Just curious what answer you guys may have to this. Perhaps I’m just missing the obvious, but Jina and I were talking about this and weren’t sure we could come up with a reasonable answer.
When Locke leaves the Island and starts to go after the others to bring them back, he finds out it’s been three years since they left. He tells Widmore it’s only been four days to him.
Now…how did the three years pass so fast? Here is something to think about:
- When Locke went down the well, time shifted and suddenly the well was closed up. That would indicate to me that they went back in time again (which I think they did, I just can’t keep it all straight).
Now, when he turned the wheel in order to leave the Island…did that move the Island three years from when the Oceanic Six left? Is that how he arrived that long after they left?
Because if that was the case, what if he had gone in the past? Or even further in the future?
What am I missing guys? If you think about what Locke said…the Island was moved while the Oceanic 6 were still on the helicopter, yet the jumps we see them go through last (according to Locke) around four days. Yet it’s three years for the 6.
Is that an indication about how time moves differently?
It almost is very similar to Narnia, except it’s reversed. In Narnia, you can live a lifetime, but return to the real world with only an hour or so having gone by.
Lots of Narnia references these days…Charlotte…The Lamp Post…and now maybe this?
Thoughts?

In Locke’ own timeline it’s only been days since Ben moved the island. When Locke turned the wheel himself he exited to that Tunisia spot and traveled INTO the future. Remember when Ben turned the wheel and went to Tunisia he also traveled into the future. (He had to clarify the date with the hotel clerk, which was October 24th, 2005)
The O6 had taken part of any time jumping. They just been living through linear time for about 3 years. However, some of them probably experience their first time jump during that Ajira flight.
We have yet to see what happened to the remaining island survivors since Locked turned the wheel. Are they still time jumping? Did they do one last time jump and stay there (that’s my guess)
Yeah, when Locke went down the well and the flash occurred, they had jumped into the past since we see at that point the the well had not been built yet. However, somebody will build a well there when they discover an odd looking rope coming out of the ground. Thank you Sawyer
I guess that all makes sense Adrian…I do kind of find it “convenient” that both times the Island was moved, the jump took them just a bit of time in the future.
I mean, why doesn’t it jump to the past? Does the wheel always go forward in time a specific amount of years/days?
And I love the irony, like you said, of the rope sticking out of the ground. I think we talked about that when we saw it…that’s probably how the well got dug in the first place
Actually I find it more than convenient that they jump to those specific times. I think they jump forward to those times because that is where they are supposed to be. Even for the island folks going though all the time jumps. They are going to very specific moments in time. Very important moments really. It’s like the island has a purpose of sending people wherever they end up.
It’s hard to know whether turning the wheel can take you to the past or not. We’ve only seen it done twice, both of which have been future jumps.
