Happy Valentine’s Day! (and Lyla is 12 weeks old!)

// February 14th, 2009 // family

It’s almost over now, but my two Valentine’s are in their respective beds getting much needed sleep, while daddy does some homework and looks forward to watching BSG here in a bit.

The day was pretty relaxed around here. I got to bed late after poker, Jina didn’t get a ton of sleep, so we really didn’t get cracking until 10am or so. I grabbed Chick-Fil-A, made a stop to grab a couple of Valentine’s cards and then spent the rest of the day at home.

I don’t know about you guys, but picking out the perfect greeting card is something I take pride in. But I don’t go for the mushy or serious stuff. It has to be funny and related to what is going on, plus the person it is meant for.

With that being said, Jina got one of the best ones I’ve ever seen, and Lyla got…a semi-serious one.

Now you may wonder how Lyla will know or care what it says. Aha! That is where I came up with an idea that I really liked, all on my own, and I’m kind if proud of it.

I’ve decided to get her a Valentine’s Day card every year, seal it up and put it aside until she one day can read them all on her own and understand them. Heck, maybe that will extend to other ones too. Who knows. But I think it will be a fun way to talk to her during this time and then see her reactions years later.

Speaking of Lyla, she’s 12 weeks old today and cute as ever. What’s changed with her?

There is one thing, which I hate to mention, but it just needs to be said. One day awhile ago, when she was only a few weeks old, I boasted how easy it was to change dirty diapers for me and that it really wasn’t as big a deal as I thought.

Someone, I think Scotty Dub, said “it will get worse.”

I didn’t really believe it until the last two weeks, but oh yeah, it’s gotten worse.

That’s all I really need to say about that.

She still loves her ceiling fans, the picture in the bedroom and random things she sees on the wall. She’s been a bit fussy the last few days, we arne’t sure what’s going on other than she’s just being a baby. We thought maybe she was teething early, Jina thinks she sees something, but it’s probably too early.

Bedtime is still an adventure…sometimes it’s five minutes, sometimes it’s 20 and a little crying, or sometimes it’s 30 and screaming. But either way, she sleeps fine after that, is a charming little girl in the mornings and seems to be getting enough rest.

One thing that I’ve noticed lately is that she likes it when I sing to her. I do it at nights usually, when she wont go right to sleep, just to calm her down a little. Sometimes it works and she goes to sleep quickly, other times it’s just a 15-minute break untils he starts crying again.

But either way, the singing calms her down. And in the last few days, I’ve sung to her a bit when she’s awake, and suddenly a big grin will appear.

Ugh, talk about melting your heart. I love this little girl. I’d be laughed off the auditions at American Idol, but Lyla thinks I’m king. I’ll take her over anyone else.

Sadly, I don’t have my pictures of her from the past week, we’ve just been so busy. But we did get a new Flip HD video camcorder and those will be coming more often.

Finally, let me not forget to talk about Jina, who is the great Valentine anyone could possibly want. She’s gotten eight hours of sleep every night the entire time we’ve been married, and suddenly that’s gone. Toss in a sick husband for a week and she’s had a rough bit there the last 14 days or so.

It’s really hard to describe what a perfect woman she is for me…so I wont try. She and I just go together and there is no other way to put it.

You are the sweetest Mike, don’t ever change, even when the newness of a new baby is gone and the tough toddler years hit and so on. Don’t stop being sweet to your girls, it really means so much to them.
