Jina and Humor
// February 23rd, 2009 // family
At church this weekend our pastor talked about pursuing our spouses and how that tends to go away once the wedding vows have been uttered. Especially once the kids arrive, life tends to become more about survival and less about focusing on each other.
He asked us all to take a vow this week, that whatever we think about our spouse, SAY IT, whatever ideas we get, DO IT and whatever we want from the other person, BE IT. Or something very close to that, my memory really does suck.
So of course the idea that pops into my head is to write about the things I love and admire about Jina the next seven days. Shocker right? Blogging is my hobby and I can think of no better way than to put into words the stuff I feel.
Jina and Humor
As most of you may have guessed, Jina is my best friend. It’s truly hard to believe, but no matter what is going on in my life, what I want to do or where I want to go, I want her by my side.
There are many reasons why, but one of the big ones is that she’s funny.
Now, I don’t know if people think I’m funny or not, I’ve been told I’m funny, people laugh at me a lot (at me or at what I say remains a mystery), whatever.
The big secret: Jina gave me my sense of humor.
I used to be pretty bland and not really speak my mind a lot, but after dating Jina for a few years, she pulled me out of my shell.
And now, even after 10 years of marriage, we still find each other extremely hilarious and could entertain ourselves for hours just sitting in a mall commenting on people walking by or any other random thing.
If a situation is dull or not going well, as long as we’re together, we know we can probably laugh our way through it and it suddenly wont be so bad.
It’s truly one of the things I love most about Jina. Just knowing we share this connection that at almost anytime, if I bring up something I find funny, she was already thinking the same thing.
So Jina…thank you for being hilarious and making me laugh for so many years now. And for teaching me the ways of humor.
Even though…I still think I’ve passed you in that department. Mer.

“….Now, I don’t know if people think I’m funny or not…” well… I agree, Jina is funny…. does that answer your question? =P
You’re right, Jina is funny. She’s the whole package.
When we were working at the movie theatre and went in for a free show we stood in line for drinks. Ms Dochterman wandered out of her office and had just gotten a new hair cut. She changed it from the bad, BAD tight perm to a decent straight hair-style. I noticed and said, “Ms Dochterman, I like your hair!” (maybe a little to enthusiastically) She thanked me and walked away. Jina, however, slowly turned around, looked at me like in shock and said, “Who. Are. You?!” We were both dying laughing. Good times, good times.
Although, now I’m feeling that I’ve brought this up recently… have I already mentioned this story? I don’t remember… (I repeat myself often…)
Maybe I’ll force Dave to do this for me, too. Although maybe that’s not the point.
I’m kidding.
@ Cap’n – Thanks!
@ Josie – Hilarious, sounds just like Jina.
Remember the old “Tacos and pie!”????
Well, first let me say that today has kind of been a crappy day. That is, until I read this amazing blog post by my cute husband. Then it made me think of the quote from Dumb and Dumber: “Just when I thought you couldn’t get any dumber, you go and do something like this… and totally redeem yourself!” Now wait, I’m not saying Mike is dumb, but I am reminded that sometimes our humor is. Mer.
You guys are so cute.
I totally remember Tacos and Pie! But don’t really remember how it all happened. Jamie and I randomly bust out with it every once in a while. Wasn’t it something about Ms. D wanting that for some party or something? I’m fussy on the details for some reason today…?
Yeah, for a work party she went ahead and got Taco Bell and a pie from Village Inn or something. It was such a weird combination we were all laughing about it
