A Mike Life – The Life of Mike!

Lyla is four months old! (and video!)

Wow, four stinking months old…my how the time has flown by.

Actually, it doesn’t feel exactly like it’s been a breezy four months, but it’s definitely gotten easier.

She’s really starting to pay attention to her surroundings now. At church on Saturday night, I was talking to some friends next to the jumping castle for kids, and it was a bit chaotic. She started crying when she saw all the kids jumping and yelling. It was the first real time I’ve seen her react that way to outside stimulus. Mostly it’s smiles or just little ooohs and aaahhhs.

The other thing that’s changed recently is the way she likes to take naps on my lap. It used to be cradling her was the way to go. Now she just sprawls out on her back and sleeps for hours. It’s relaxing for her, and easier on my arms!

And she seems to be talking a bit more. Instead of only making crying sounds when she’s hungry, etc., she’s starting to make loud, talking sounds when she’s bored or it’s close to feeding time.

She’s still a bit sketchy on the sleeping…she falls asleep just fine, but hasn’t had many good 6,7 or 8 hour stretches lately…mostly 3-4 hours. She is headed to the doctor today for a check-up, and we’re going to ask about that. Can’t wait to find out how much she weighs and all that good stuff!

I find myself loving this little girl more and more. She lights up when she sees us, she is started to laugh a bit more when you tickle her or make faces…and you can tell that something big is coming soon…be it turning over in bed, busting out with a real laugh or even crawling…the next thing is coming. Soon.

I think for me personally, the more and more I find her actually recognizing me and interacting with me, the more fun it gets. And while I’ve loved her this entire time, it just begins to feel more real and vivid. I dunno how to explain it.

So I leave you with a short video of Lyla sitting in her Bumbo…she’s usually a lot more smiley than this, but I think she was still getting used to the thing. Anyways, when she sits in that little chair, she’s so stinking cute.

Last night during our weekly small group meeting in our house, everyone was sitting down in chairs, and Jina had Lyla in her Bumbo on the floor. She was just sitting and looking around at all the faces, like she was ready to start! I thought it was hilarious.
