Let’s talk about Lost!

***SPOILERS***
I am in the middle of an extremely busy week right now, with a new class starting that already has me neck-deep in work, my regular job and a party we’re throwing for my brother on Saturday night.
Hence, I don’t have a ton of time to write about Lost this week, but I still wanted to get something out there.
Did he really die? Is Daniel Faraday dead?
I think he is. First off, he eludes to it when he talks to Jack…and second, his mother sent him off to the Island with a quivering lip and misty eyes. I think she knew he was going to die, which we’re obviously led to believe since she shot him as her younger self.
Yikes.
I for one liked Faraday, but am okay with him being gone now. Are you guys? Did it tick you off?
What else did we learn? Not only is Ellie his mom, but Charles is his father??? He got a nice slap for that, but I don’t know if we knew that already or I just missed it?
I wonder if Daniel used that journal a lot because he couldn’t remember anything. Almost like the movie Memento, where he left notes for himself to remember things.
Is Ellie right? Did Jack, Kate, etc., not need to come back?
Can they really change time by dropping setting off the hydrogen bomb? I was certain the writers said it was impossible to change the past, but who knows????
I did love the explanation from Daniel about why the Swan required a button to be pushed.
What did you guys think of the episode?

Liked it. Not ticked off that Daniel is gone but a little sad–had a little crush on him. I knew Ellie and Charles were Daniel’s parents since back in the episode where he was in the 50s with the hydrogen bomb.
Eloise is a HUGE preacher of not being able to change the future–remember her talk with Desmond after the hatch blew up? So the fact that she said that all the Oceanic 6 HAD TO go back to the island makes me think that they had to do so so that things could happen like they’re supposed to. She sent Daniel to the island knowing she would kill him and didn’t try to change that. I don’t see how things can happen differently than they did because Jack and Kate and all of them were there in the 70s the first time. It’s all happening exactly the way it did.
Definitely a crazy mind-bender!
Man, I don’t know. It seems like the more questions they answer the more questions we ask…
I didn’t see Daniel’s death coming, but I did figure out Charles was his dad. But the whole idea that they can prevent any of this from happening by detonating the bomb seems a bit anti-climactic. I mean, we’ve been riding along all this time with the idea that there’s some grand design or some great force at work driving everything to some ultimate conclusion. So to say that they aren’t really meant to be there and they could change everything but just blowing up a bomb wouldn’t explain anything.
Plus, Kate and John and probably some of the others would NEVER want things to go back to the way they were before the plane crashed. I can’t see them doing anything to help a plan like that. Not sure where they’re going with that storyline…
I don’t think Faraday’s dead. I think they’re playing with our heads with the cliffhanger. They’ll help him recover somehow, which will play into whatever historical events that ‘already’ happened. By I believe him saying that any of them could die was definitely foreshadowing. Just not him, at least not now. Definitely not seeing how the ‘variables’ can affect the past yet. Like Melissa, everything is happening like it happened all along.
I don’t know if Faraday is dead or not… but I think it’s about time for someone to die. The first few seasons of Lost were interesting because no one was safe (from dying) and thus anything could happen. It would be kind of cool (morbid, I know) if we went back to that kind of unpredictability – not to say that Lost is ever really predictable. Anyway…
Faraday… He’s dead Jim….
I think Faraday is probably dead…but he won’t stay that way. Using the “rules” of the island that they’ve already established, it is possible for the island to bring people back to life.
The island healed John and then later brought him back to life. We know for this episode that the island healed Faraday of his illness so it makes logical sense that he would “qualify” to be brought back to life by the island.
Faraday’s mother was upset about sending him to the island to be killed by her younger self, but she knew it had to happen in order to fulfill the destiny…and she knew that he wouldn’t stay dead…which is why she allowed it to happen.
I think Daniel has to be dead or it kind of ruins the whole moment. Obviously his mom sent him there knowing she was going to shoot him, which made it all the worse.
If he’s not really dead, then it will be a bit contrived to me.
Now…on the flip side, him dying already kind of makes me wonder what his purpose was? To get Chang to get everyone off the Island? To leave behind plans to blow up the hydrogen bomb?
