The Amazing Race, Leg 8

// April 12th, 2009 // fun

First off, Happy Easter to everyone out there, even if it’s nearing the end of the day. Hope everyone had a great day and enjoyed spending time with their families, eating great food and maybe even going to church.

And can anyone think of a better way to finish off a Easter Sunday by watching another wild and wacky episode of The Amazing Race?

You’d think after a bazillion seasons of the show, teams would kind of get an idea of what they should be doing out there. Yet this year has definitely proven the opposite. One team in particular might possibly be the worst ever.

Ever.

Spoilers be ahead

So either the Amazing Race gods absolutely despise Mark and Michael, or they just might be the worst team to ever step on Phil’s pit stop mat.

I mean, how is it possible to earn TWO two-hour penalties?

Let’s figure this out now alright: Last time out they received two dings for random crap they did on the race, which resulted in damages of one total hour. So 30 minutes each.

Bartering with stuff you have in your bag? TWO HOUR penalty. Now, I don’t know much about how teams are told the rules of the game, but obviously this one is kind of serious. It’s probably one of those rules you just can’t possibly miss in the book. I have to assume all teams are given a rule book to go through before they start. It just makes sense to read and comprehend.

But these guys didn’t.  In fact, I highly doubt they even read the thing. They have this attitude of thinking they are good at everything they do (even karaoki, which NO, they aren’t), and yet they continuously make mistakes.

Somehow, they survived the race anyways because of the second Non-Elimination leg, but they are majorly hosed next week. They’ll be leaving last, 3+ hours behind Kisha and Jennifer, AND have to do the Speed Bump. Their only hope is another flight where everyone catches up.

I can’t decide whether the two teams leaving their bags behind was a mistake, or it was just smart of the other teams to realize the situation. I think when you get on a boat to go to a different location, you have to make the assumption that you aren’t coming back. Bring those bags.

So Margie and Luke ran a tight, smart leg and finished way ahead in first place. Lucky for Luke his mother is very, very okay with sticking her fingers in the mouths of old people with no teeth.

Somehow those darned cheerleaders finished 2nd, despite driving through flooded streets and bad attitudes. Or, at least one of them has a problem talking to foreign people, but I don’t know her name nor do I care. You know who I’m talking about.

Seemed like a short leg huh? Dunno why, but it was quick.  Next week looks very, very good.

The Contest!

  1. Mark and Michael are a few fries short of a happy meal BUT I think that’s a dumb rule. Keisha and Jen got around by asking for stuff for free. Seems to me bartering with stuff is a better way to go than just expecting people to give you something for nothing. Also, they shouldn’t have to finish out the 3+ hour penalty at the beginning of the next race. That’s dumb too. And Jamie makes me sick with her attitude towards those who can’t speak English. I hope she’s humiliated watching these episodes back.

  2. Mike says:

I really think the penalty for bartering might be important because of some of these countries not having much, or being poor, etc.

Like that one episode where someone wanted to give a kid money, but they knew all the kids needed it.

I think you end up causing problems if you introduce something of worth to a person in a foreign country like that….at least, that’s all I can think of.

  3. Sara says:

I didn’t watch until last night and I was so MAD that Mark and Michael managed t make it through another leg!!! I mean how many times can you break the rules and still be there! Someone (and not me) is smiling on them. I don’t think I would have been so irritated if it hadn’t been for Mike and Mel going home because they had become one of my favorite teams along with Margie and Luke.
