Lyla turns 6-months old (and video!)
// May 23rd, 2009 // family
Today was Lyla’s 6-month birthday and it’s been a rockin half-year thus far. People always like to say to enjoy the time you have with your baby, because it goes by so quickly.
Well, that’s true…it’s six months and almost seems like a blur. At the same time, it’s also been one of the more challenging times of our lives, and felt like an eternity at some points.
We’ve discovered one thing about Lyla this past week: She can be trained.
For awhile there during feeding times with the rice cereal, Lyla liked to shove her hands in her mouth while eating, causing a gargantuan mess.
Well, Jina decided to teach her to NOT do that by pulling her hands way everytime she went for her mouth and saying “no Lyla…no.”
It only took two feedings and suddenly she will rarely try it anymore. Sometimes, she doesn’t at all.
I don’t think I knew that kind of stuff was possible yet. Good job Jina!
She’s also learned to “crab walk” this week, which you can see in the video below.
We took her in for her 6-month checkup today as well and it wasn’t as much fun as they’ve been in the past. More shots, which she took like a champ, but her weight is a bit low and we’re going to need to try some stuff to get that corrected. Jina is still breastfeeding and we just need to increase that supply a bit more. We also need to work a bit harder on helping her learn how to soothe herself to sleep and get regular naps.
The stats: She’s now 14 pounds and 26 inches tall.
Overall though, she’s perfect and doing fantastic. This week has been a bit weird, she’s been more fussy and whiny than usual, so maybe it’s teething or her incredible lack of bowel movements.
But that stuff is just par for the course right? The fact is, she’s amazing. How could we go back to life without a little baby in our midst? There’s no way. She’s here, part of our lives and it always feels like it’s been this way.
I can’t wait to see what the next six months have in store for us.

So sweet Mike. You and Jina are rockin awesome parents. Wishing you so much happiness in the next 6 months. When they turn a year old you wonder where time went. Love ya guys!!! kisses and hugs to Lyla and Jina, hugs to you Mikey.
