This and That

A great Memorial Day weekend is just about in the books. I will be headed to Portland this week on Wednesday through Thursday, so I’ll be in the office waaaaay early Tuesday morning to prepare for the trip. Never been to Portland before, so I’m kind of excited to check it out. Heard nothing but great things about the city.
Probably will end up wanting to move there…it’s kind of my M.O. whenever we visit a new area of the country. A few years back, I was all ready to open up a little internet cafe on Cape Cod.
This trip will mark the first time I’ve been out of town overnight since Lyla was born. I’m sure everything will be fine, and Jina isn’t worried about it, but it’s kind of hard to be away from those two. We’re going to hook up the web cams and talk over Skype so I can get to see both of them Wednesday night.
If I didn’t mention it before, I’ve started my third to last class at University of Phoenix and already have a week in the books, which is fantastic. Getting soooo close to be done. Will be over before I know it.
So my last blog post talked about how Lyla needed to gain a bit of weight and also how she’s been a little whiny for no reason. Well, a few days go by and she’s just back to her normal self. I think she’s such a good baby, that anytime she whines or acts weird, we sort of over-analyze things to figure out WHY.
I’m the worst at it and never thought I would be. I’m usually so easy going, but seem to be the one who is constantly trying to get to the bottom of everything she does.
Some new things for Lyla this week. She tasted her first baby food Monday night and it was sweet potatoes. She seemed to enjoy it, but got some funny looks on her face after about half of it.
She also had become a bit possessive of new things that she gets her hands on. For example, we gave her a sippy cup (the very first one) and just let her play with it to get used to it. Jina took it away for a second and she responded by throwing a tiny tantrum. Funny…at this stage anyways, but not for long I assume.
Lyla is also starting to become a bit more attached to Jina I think, at least vocally. Sometimes when Jina leaves the room, Lyla will get whiny or even let out a little cry before she goes back to whatever she was doing. I think that’s to be expected and kind of cool if you ask me.
We’ve known for awhile that Lyla loves to kick her legs a lot. Sometimes she’s like the Roadrunner…legs always churning. Seems like more and more people bring it up after they’ve watched her or held her for awhile.
Not sure what it all means, but I think she’s going to do something with it someday. A runner, soccer player, dancer, who knows. But something great.
Only a week and four days until we go to Oklahoma for Jina’s family reunion, so that will definitely be an interesting experience with Lyla tagging along. Her first plane ride.
If anyone has good advice or tips about flying on a plane with a baby, feel free to share!
Here’s a link to the latest batch of photos we have of Lyla and us.
Have a great week everyone, I figure my blogging will be limited until next weekend.

What he didn’t mention is that he also tends to cry or whine whenever I leave the room. Not sure why, but it seems the old adage is right – monkey see, monkey do… or… what’s good for the goose is good for the gander… or… the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree… one of those, you pick
Good luck on the plane. At Lyla’s age my kids always slept on the plane because the noise is so loud it was calming for them. But we did have some trouble with ear pressure at landing so try to give her a bottle then or a pacifier (the sucking helps pop their ears is what I have been told). Have fun on your first trip away with a baby. It definetly is a different kind of vacation but still wonderful! Miss you guys!
