Will travel with baby
// June 2nd, 2009 // family
So we’re headed to Oklahoma this weekend for Jina’s family reunion and it marks the very first time Lyla will ride on an airplane in her short, 6-month life.
Needless to say, we’re a little bit nervous about it. Not like “terrified” nervous, but just wanting to make sure we know all the ins and outs of flying with a baby before we get on that plane and have no idea what to do.
She’s a good kid, rarely cries for no reason, so I don’t anticipate any real problems, but we wanted to ask for advice from some of you guys on the best way to travel with a baby on a plane.
So how ’bout it? Anyone got some good tips or pointers?

Make sure you have something she can suck on for her ears. Bottles or pacifiers, etc. Have fun!
Have Jina nurse her while descending on the plane. This will help with the ear pressure. When I have traveled with Bailey I would travel with an umbrella stroller, makes it so much easier when dropping it off at the beginning of the plane ride and not having a bulky stroller. She will probably sleep a lot so that will be great for you guys. Pack a few of her favorite things if she has any yet!!! That is the best advice I can give from experience. I love my Chicco umbrella stroller about a $50 stroller but I have used it so much, worth the money.
Yeah, best advice we got was to try to time feeding during take off/landing. It distracts them from the noise and helps with pressure, etc. We also kept Drew awake much longer in the a.m. and once he had the hum of the plane he immediately feel alseep. What a good little boy! We also brought lots of snacks (like cheerios) and that kept him busy when he was awake. It’s all about the food… at least in our family.
Another good thing to pack is a couple ziplock baggies for any diaper/s that may be stinky. Nothing worse than being stuck in an airplane with a stinky pooper. And a change of clothes is always good in case of any of those BIG poopies.
Just keep repeating: Food and Poopie, Food and Poopie, Food and Poopie.
dont travel on a plane with a baby…. I like stating the obvious ones =)
