This and That (and video!)

// August 30th, 2009 // family

Only one week left. By a week from tomorrow, I will be utterly and totally done with school. What, no going for my Masters?

Heeeeeckkkk no!

I’ve had enough and I couldn’t even begin to think about adding to the student loans I’m already going to have to pay off.

This week was another busy one. Lots going on at work. Brought in a support contract for another nearby town and started work on one of the more recent projects that I helped bring in. I’m almost paying for myself right now (kind of).

Had both of my fantasy football drafts this weekend. They went well, but were as always exhausting.

On to news other than my own!

Jina took Lyla to her 9-month checkup this past week and things are looking better. As you may remember, Lyla had almost fallen off the chart in terms of her weight, so we have been working hard to get that up. The good news is that she’s now 16.2 pounds and that puts her in the 10th percentile, a 5% jump from last time.

Lyla hanging with her grandpa from Texas! Grandpa Timm!

She’s also in the 50% in everything else. Well done little girl!

However, the doctor said she’s anemic, so we’re having to add some medicine to her meals to get that better.

This weekend Jina’s dad came in town for one of the fantasy football drafts I’m in, the first time he’s been here for one since they moved to Texas. It was great to see him and Lyla enjoyed getting to know him a bit better.

Lyla is starting to get close to standing on her own. Quite a few times in the last 4-5 days she’s let go of any support and stood there for anywhere from 2-5 seconds. More and more she’s trying to do this. She’s also making a new clicking sound with her mouth and I’ve heard some new syllables.

She also loves to crawl around carrying objects now. From a teddy bear to a tennis racket, she just likes to have something with her.

Lyla is now allowed to eat some real human food, so we’ve been giving her yogurt to start with and letting her taste a few other things. She’s not fond of chunky stuff, like a diced banana, so we’ll work up to that.

She does like water, however, and the video below shows how good she’s gotten with drinking from a glass. Granted, I have to hold it, but at least she doesn’t let it dribble down her chin like before. At least, not too much.

    Let me just take a quick minute here to say publicly how proud I am of Mike. It’s not easy to go back to school, especially when you are working full-time and have the number of hobbies/interests that Mike does (you all knew I had to throw that in). But to stick to school, and now reach this point of completion… well, I can’t tell you enough, Mike, how amazing I think you are! Thank you for doing what you felt you needed to do to provide for me and for Lyla. We love you very much! blah-blah-bing-click-click-dada = Lyla speak for I love you Daddy! xoxo…

    Congrats on finishing school…It will be a great feeling to have that one off of the “to do list”! Also, what a great pic of Lyla and Grandpa.

    So, Monday is the last day of school, huh? I AM SOOOOOO PROUD OF YOU!!!! And Jina, your comments about Michael really blessed my heart!! I thank the LORD often for giving such a wonderful and respectful woman as a wife to my son and that Michael loves his wife & daughter enough to make such a sacrifice of his time for them. Bless them LORD Jesus.
