So like I said in a previous post, Jina felt the sign we put up on Lyla’s door wasn’t complete:

So I thought about it for all of 10 seconds and realized it needed something “tree-ish” to compliment the room which has a fairly heavy “tree” theme going on. Jina said she looked for stickers, but I thought I could find something else.

I was at Michael’s in an attempt to get back into building plastic models like I did when I was a kid, and so while I was there I browsed the other aisles looking for something to jump out at me. I knew what I wanted, just had to find it.

And there they were. Four little wooden trees that sort of matched what we had in the bedroom. So I bought some model paint, a few brushes and was ready to rock and roll:

I used a brown and flat black to mix the two and come up with the darker colored brown we have in the room. Mixed it all up and started painting! Here’s a shot of the first one:

So yeah, I’m awesome right?

I know, it’s not like I built the pyramids or hallowed out the Grand Canyon or anything like that, but it was a fun little touch, something I could do and it turned out pretty nice.

I did four trees, but the sign just looks a lot better with only one, so we’ll see if we can use the others somewhere else later on.

The only thing that really is left is to finish off the sign. You’ll see it in the pictures below, but Jina said it was lacking something, I came up with an idea and turned it into my tiny little art project for the weekend.

You’ll see it completed in a day or two. It’s totally not a big deal, but I’m proud of it.

The mostly complete layout for the shelves and the art that Kate made for us! I know Jina will be adding to the shelves over time because there just isn’t a lot there right now.

Here is the sign on the door into the room. The “r” is a little crooked, but will be “re-stuck” tomorrow. Jina did the whole thing on her own on a peg board made of brown corderoy fabric. She did the pattern, the silver tacks and found the words at Michaels.

But like I said above, she said something is missing so hopefully my little side project will made it perfect.

This weekend was an incredibly busy one for me as far as work goes. We have a big project that will have a big final test this coming week, so there was a ton of clean up stuff for me to do, which kept me busy.

But somehow we found time to watch 3+ hours of a video called Laughing and Learning about Childbirth, which ended up being very informative, if not a bit cheesy and weird. I found the host actually quite funny, but the discussion group angle was awkward.

Still, it kind of ruined things a bit for me, I must say. I think I was sort of blind to the whole process and thought it was just this magical thing that was going to happen. Now I know all the gruesome details and really just want to get it all over with.

We were both pretty excited that the baby would come sooner, but after Saturday night, it kind of feels like it will never happen.

Jina got a lot done the last few days, just preparing for the coming day when Lyla arrives. We also are just about done with the baby’s room, and I have some pictures below to show you.

The new stuff you haven’t seen are the shelves up on the walls, along with some art we’ve received from our friend Josie and Jina’s old co-worker, Kate. I also finally hid the cord from the light with some cool wall stripping.

It’s looking really good and I cannot wait to bring little Lyla home to see it soon.

Here you can see the cord hidden inside some white stripping…makes it look real neat.

Not sure if everyone got to see the fat pig chair was got from our friends Scott and Deb.

Josie did these awesome little blocks that spell out Lyla’s name. I love them!

You can’t see it too well in the photo above, but this is a little fabric tack board where we can hang little letters and other things outside her door. We want to do something that says “Lyla’s Room” or another idea like that.

Two nights ago Lyla was moving like crazy again, feet poking up out of Jina’s belly, and I could really feel her moving around like never before.

She certainly seems ready to come on out of there to me.

So the due date is November 30th I guess, but I honestly don’t think it will be that long. I’m all for her coming early.

Jina was pretty drained last week. Most nights she came home and was asleep by eight. But the weekend was nice and relaxing for both of us and I think she regained some energy. I took Friday off myself and spent some time posting photos on Facebook, then ran some errands and took a short nap in the afternoon.

It’s amazing how rejuvenating it is to have a day where everyone else is working and you are free to just wander where you want. It’s one of those rare times where slow traffic doesn’t bother you, people writing checks at the grocery store makes you smile instead of grit your teeth and the clock just isn’t a factor.

Other than the baby’s room, I think we’re all ready for her to arrive. We still have a few things to do in there, like hang some shelves, put up some pictures on the walls, and then just polish it off with a few things.

One thing that some of you haven’t seen is the tree decal we have up on one of the walls now, which totally matches the bedding in the crib. We also have the light hung up over the crib, but I need to hide the power cord with some of those wall strips.

Clothes already hanging in the closet!

This is the AWESOME Jeep Stroller…thanks Mom for that!

It started with the first coat of a lighter pink, which I showed you guys last week. We had to do two coats of that to get it to really look great.

This week we added three horizontal stripes of varying widths on two of the walls, just to add some uniqueness to the room. I freaked out at first because when the new color went on (it’s a darker pink), it was the EXACT same color as the lighter pink.

But it quickly dried and really looked great.

All that is left is some horizontal stripes on two of the walls in a darker shade of pink. That is going to turn out really nice and we may even get more creative with it.
